Job Description
Job Summary:

The Chapman Lab in the Department of Neuroscience has several interests related to mechanisms of membrane fusion, synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity. The Research Specialist will perform tasks such as supply maintenance for experimental needs, assistance with equipment maintenance, and help managing safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. The position will be a back-up to the lab manager and may perform tasks such as animal colony maintenance, overseeing the genotyping program, and performing weekly rat dissections for a medium sized lab. The Research Specialist may conduct research independently or in collaboration with other lab members. Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task are required for this position. Special projects may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
  • 50% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 20% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 5% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 10% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in health, physical sciences or related field

Qualifications:

Lab experience preferred. 1 year + animal experience preferred. Experience with cloning and cell culture preferred.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $44,522 ANNUAL (12 months)
