This role contributes to improving health, safety and environment (HSE) performance, helping the organization to deliver a high-performing culture through clear accountability and a skilled organization in the Motion System Drives based in New Berlin, Wisconsin. The HSE Specialist develops, leads, and administers the organization's multi-site HSE programs which exceed compliance with OSHA ( Occupation Safety and Health Administration) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization) requirements

This position reports to

Global Health, Safety and Environmental Manager

Your responsibilities

  • Promote and ensure the health and safety of employees and protection of the environment through responsive and proactive HSE programs. Protect employees and the environment from incidents and hazards while ensuring compliance with regulations. Establishes performance target objectives aligned with strategic ABB direction in core functions and monitors achievement
  • Act as consultant to management in health, safety, & environment related issues. Identify opportunities for improvement in the HSE program regarding compliance, management systems, and culture. Develop, recommend, and implement appropriate corrective measures. Previous experience with management of electrical safety, material handling equipment, and contractor safety programs preferred
  • Maintain HSE management systems including control of documents and records, operational control procedures, and continuous improvement
  • Support the incident investigation process to ensure proper root cause, corrective actions, and preventative measures are taken. Ensure the process for filing necessary reports and documentation is followed. Train and develop operations leadership in effective incident investigation
  • Support the HSE employee teams to improve overall HSE program and culture. Train and develop team leaders and ensure teams have proper resources and direction to drive results. Teams may include but are not limited to: Emergency Response, Ergonomics, Electrical Safety, Office Safety, and Green (Environmental)
  • Develop, conduct, and maintain HSE orientation programs. Train staff in HSE awareness and compliance requirements. Schedule all HSE compliance training activities for the company and maintain records as appropriate
  • Support sustainability initiatives and maintain energy, water and waste consumption metrics. Develop, recommend, and implement appropriate controls to reduce use or disposal
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and readiness of safety equipment, protective clothing and devices; and first aid supplies
Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, or a directly related area and minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • Previous experience with management of electrical safety, material handling equipment, and contractor safety programs highly preferred
  • Travel up to 10% required
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and employee relations skills is required
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization is required
  • Certification as a Safety Professional or other applicable certifications is highly preferred
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
